Mining Solutions

At Vislink, we specialize in providing industry specific communications systems that are carefully designed to meet individualized needs. The key challenges that must be addressed in developing effective systems for surface mining include productivity, safety, and security, plus the ability to monitor and control all aspects of the operation with accurate, real-time data, voice, and video connectivity. All communications must be reliable and secure from any point to any other point within the designated zone of the operation.

The primary metric in mining productivity is the "cost per ton" and how to control it. Controlling productivity means knowing what is happening all across the operation on a dynamic, real-time basis. Having that kind of information available in a user friendly manner requires careful integration of multiple subsystems into one contiguous tool that supports management and dispatch of mobile equipment and operators, operator and equipment tracking, equipment health monitoring, remote equipment monitoring and control, environmental sensor monitoring, security monitoring, and many other tasks that may be unique to an operation.

The development of a system that raises the bar with regard to controlling and improving productivity while maintain a high level of safety begins with an in depth understanding of each operation. Vislink systems integration specialists will conduct an on-site assessment of mobile equipment, fixed equipment, existing communications infrastructure, electric power sources, and terrain. We will also study the mining plan to gain an understanding of anticipated changes that will occur in the future, and the system dynamics that may be required to accommodate these changes.

At Vislink, we know that every industry has unique and different needs and we take the time to understand those needs. We look at each mining project as a unique opportunity, with its own set of challenges and priorities. Not every situation is alike and we will work with your team to create the right solution to meet your goals. We will provide measurable validation of the system performance to ensure the network meets your expectations.

Mesh Network Architecture Advantages

A meshed network infrastructure is the ideal method of providing reliable communications for a surface mining operation, as it needs little or no operator intervention, yet provides highly reliable connectivity due to the self healing nature of the technology. A mesh network node may be thought of as an automatic wireless router that works in unison with other mesh nodes to originate data, or pass along originated by other nodes in the network. If a node fails, other nodes in network continue to pass data that would have been passed the failed node. In addition, mesh networks have the ability to self-configure and re-configure automatically, making it ideal for networks with portable or mobile nodes.

As vehicle E moves around within the designated zone of operations, the Mesh Network automatically reconfigures itself to maintain full connectivity.

Planning & Design

Our highly experienced design team will evaluate your overall requirements; assign the appropriate professional staff members, and create a tailored solution to meet your specific needs. Whether your requirement is for a dynamically moveable mining application, or a permanently fixed mining application, Vislink Services has the systems knowledge to get it done correctly and on time. Our Design Services approach includes:

On-site survey and assessment of mining equipment, topology, existing communications infrastructure, and special requirements
Familiarisation with the mining plan of record
Productivity Goals
Electric power needs
Security requirements
Health and safety issues

Point-to-Point Systems

When high speed wireless connectivity is required between data collection points and central monitoring and facilities, Vislink can provide secure microwave data links that can span distances from a few miles to 30 miles or more. Key features of these systems include:

Throughput up to 300 Mbps
10/100 Ethernet and T1/E1 support
High resistance to fades and multipath
Unlicensed UNI-I band operation
Remote user management
Solar Power Systems

Operations in remote areas typically require on-site power generation. Transportable solar power arrays are the ideal solution for communications equipment, as the current drains are low and the reliability is high. Vislink offers a variety of solar power systems on movable sleds, designed to provide continuous, cost effective and reliable DC voltages for remote communications equipment.

Single crystal high efficiency solar arrays
Gel-type maintenance free batteries
Structurally certified to meet AASHTO 150 mph exposure "D" wind force ratings.
Models up to 1,020 array watts available, with output voltages at 48 VDC
May be used to power multiple remote devices such as wireless RF data systems and video camera systems
Designed to be transportable with minimum effort
System Antenna Arrays
