Jorge Lorenzo won his second successive victory in the championship, and third in a row at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, to close the gap on championship leader Marc Marquez. The win, coupled with his hat-trick at the Mugello circuit, means that Lorenzo has been unbeaten in Italy for the past three years, notching up six wins.
Starting from second on the grid, the Spaniard took the lead into the first corner that he would never relinquish, and quickly opened up a gap to second place. Marquez, who had set a new lap record in qualifying, had a poor start that was compounded with a mistake on the fifth lap, and was struggling in fourth position, until halfway through the race when he regained third place and closed in on teammate Dani Pedrosa.
The two battled over a number of laps, with the Gigawave onboard cameras capturing the incredible action as the two riders came within millimetres of touching. Marquez eventually gained the upper hand to claim second place, but the battle had allowed Lorenzo to extend his lead and keep him out of his fellow countryman´s clutches.
