In the history of sport, there have been many great comebacks, but this one has to be ranked as one of the best, if not the best. With a lead of 8-1, Team Emirates New Zealand appeared to be a certainty to win the America´s Cup, with only one more win required, but incredibly Oracle Team USA managed to win the eight straight races they required to retain the trophy.
After sending out an SOS to Olympic sailing legend, Sir Ben Ainslie, to join their team, the USA team fought against all the odds to achieve an outstanding victory. Whilst some may use the word choke in relation to Team New Zealand´s performance, nothing can take away from Team USA the fantastic nature of their win.
The America´s Cup LiveLine technology took home an Emmy for extraordinary technical innovation. LiveLine superimposes graphics on the race course for viewers watching at home, which easily show which boats are leading the race and the race-course boundaries.
The award recognises the efforts of the America´s Cup television and technology companies which helped to bring the action to more than 250 million television viewers worldwide.
