Overview

For the 2026 Pasadena Rose Parade, Vislink wireless camera systems supplied by Rocha Video played a central role in delivering uninterrupted coverage of the event opening acts for NBC’s coverage. The solution enabled roaming Steadicam operators to capture the scale, colour and energy of one of the world’s most-watched New Year’s Day broadcasts, even despite torrential rain during the event.

The Event

Held on January 1, 2026, the Pasadena Rose Parade marked the start of the New Year for millions of viewers worldwide. First staged in 1890, the Rose Parade is one of the longest-running and most recognisable annual events in the United States, celebrating community, creativity and tradition through elaborate floral floats, marching bands and equestrian units.

With the theme “The Magic in Teamwork” and Grand Marshal Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the parade was broadcast live on NBC, with additional online streaming coverage ahead of the Rose Bowl Game. As one of the largest single-day live broadcasts of the year, the event demanded continuous live shots along a lengthy route, with no tolerance for dropped signals, inconsistent images or technical disruption.

The Challenge

Covering the Rose Parade presents unique broadcast challenges. Steadicam operators must remain highly mobile while delivering stable, broadcast-grade images that match seamlessly across multiple roaming cameras, all while navigating dense crowds and a continuously moving parade route.

For the 2026 event, torrential rain added a significant human and operational challenge. Camera operators and engineering teams worked for extended periods in difficult conditions, maintaining focus, precision and pace as the broadcast unfolded live. In this environment, confidence in the equipment was essential; crews needed wireless systems they could trust implicitly, allowing them to concentrate fully on storytelling rather than managing technical risk.

Despite the conditions, the production required uninterrupted live coverage, consistent image quality and absolute reliability throughout a broadcast watched by millions.

The Solution

Eight additional Sony cameras were deployed on Steadicams to support the opening act team, each integrated with Vislink HCAM wireless camera systems working on the private RF network built for the event. The HCAM units enabled operators to move freely along the parade route while delivering low-latency, high-quality live video back to the production compound.

At the receive end, Vislink Quantum receivers formed the core of the RF infrastructure, managing all incoming wireless signals and ensuring clean, reliable reception throughout the broadcast. The system required no operational intervention during the event, allowing the production team to focus entirely on live output rather than signal management.

All equipment was supplied and supported by Rocha Video, whose experience with large-scale live events ensured a robust and well-coordinated RF deployment.

“Vislink’s systems are always trusted on the biggest live events because reliability and picture quality are absolutely critical,” said Julio Rocha, Owner at Rocha Video. “When you’re broadcasting to millions of viewers in real time – especially in extreme weather – you need technology that simply works. Vislink consistently delivers the performance and service quality we rely on for events like the Rose Parade.”

The Result

Despite heavy rain and demanding production conditions, the broadcast ran smoothly from start to finish. Vislink’s wireless systems delivered consistent live pictures from every Steadicam position, enabling NBC to present a polished, uninterrupted New Year’s Day broadcast to millions of viewers.

The success of the Rose Parade coverage reinforced why proven RF wireless workflows continue to be relied upon year after year for major live events, where mobility, reliability and picture quality remain non-negotiable.
